During Deployment

KEEP IN TOUCH (KIT) PROGRAMME
This monthly telephone service is designed to keep the family member at home connected to the community and MFRC while the military member is away. It’s an empathetic ear ready to listen and inform about available services, programs and other relevant information – including decoding military language.

To sign up, please contact our Deployment Coordinator Cassie Reeves at 403-410-2320 ext. 3558 or email cassandra.reeves@calgarymfrc.ca

FREE MAIL AND PARCEL SERVICE
Families can send care packages to members deployed overseas or stationed at another base free of charge through the MFRC. Parcels must be sealed and addressed, with a return address, content list and phone number visible. Packages usually arrive at their destinations within four to six weeks.

DEPLOYMENT RESPITE CHILDCARE
The goal of Deployment Respite Childcare is to support the well-being of families who have a deployed CAF member to relieve some of the stressors related to childcare. It can be offered in or out of the home for up to 96 hours of free care and it doesn’t need to be continuous.

For more information please contact our Child and Youth Coordinator Kristin Lailey at 403-410-2320 ext. 3592 or email kristin.lailey@calgarymfrc.ca

IN SCHOOL ASSISTANCE
We are beginning an initiative to provide information to educators about the unique challenges of the military lifestyle, and to provide resources to help teachers support their students impacted by deployments.

  • Presentations for educators during your school in-service days/afternoons. These can be specific to aspects of the military lifestyle, such as deployments and reunions or moving/postings.
  • Resources for educators about deployments, postings/frequent moves/adjusting to new schools, communicating with deployed parents, and the military lifestyle.
  • The Child and Youth and Deployment Coordinators, at the invitation of the teacher or parent(s), and with the consent of both, can facilitate a meeting with the teacher and family to discuss an upcoming or ongoing deployment, ways to support students, and what supports the Calgary MFRC can offer both military families and educators during a deployment.
For more information please contact our Child and Youth Coordinator Kristin Lailey at 403-410-2320 ext. 3592 or email kristin.lailey@calgarymfrc.ca
