Second Language Services

The Edmonton MFRC Language services helps military families member improve or maintain their second language skills for English.

Families can access some services in French and find information to French businesses, organizations and services offered in Edmonton region.

Social events and activities are offered to ease the transition and integration of new families, while enjoying the experience of learning about a new culture and language.

Services offered at the MFRC include:
Welcoming and community orientation services
Francophones families can get a Welcome package in French, including information and references about their new community, region and about their local MFRC services.

Second Language Training
Many different options are offered to French speaking family members who need to learn English or who would like to improve their skills. Referencing services are also offered for those who would like to pursue at a higher level, and for those who want to learn another language.

Support for new families
French families and new comers can be helped in reading, understanding and filling up documents that are only available in English (for example, documents from Alberta government or Alberta based agencies). Families can also get information and help to find French services offered locally (daycare, schools, professionals, health care, etc.).

Help for students
As part of a partnership between the TÉLUQ University and the Canadian Armed Forces, students may plan to do their exams directly on base, thanks to the MFRC’s exam monitoring program.
