CAFKIDS- crisis texting service for kids of CAF families

A customized crisis texting service was launched for the children and youth of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members.  This service will ensure all children and youth from military families have access to free mental health and well-being support through a dedicated and confidential texting service. The new service, Crisis Text Line powered by Kids Help Phone, is presented in partnership by Canadian Forces Morale & Welfare Services (CFMWS), Kids Help Phone and True Patriot Love Foundation.
This new texting service ensures that military children and youth have access to a dedicated and confidential texting service regardless of their geographic location in Canada. Kids Help Phone staff and volunteer crisis responders have been trained to have an enhanced understanding of the military family lifestyle.  Now military kids, who need help, can get help by texting CAFKIDS to 686868.
A parent’s deployment during COVID-19 may add significantly to the worry already taking place for children and youth of military families. Now more than ever having the means to stay connected and get support is critical, for all Canadians and all Canadian children, particularly during the evolving stages of COVID-19. With the current self-isolating measures that we are all undertaking, and many services closing, making certain that those most vulnerable receive support is critical.
