Wurtele Arena - full service facility

Just a few steps from the the Naden Athletic Centre, the Wurtele Arena is a full-service ice complex popular with military and civilian members for skating, hockey and other chilly activities.

At Wurtele Arena, our standard-sized ice surface is 85 ft x 200 ft. With our extremely accessible hours,  Wurtele is the place to play in Victoria!
PLEASE NOTE: Ice is removed May through August.
 
Hours of Operation
Mon to Sun: 7:00am - 11:30pm (Subject to change). The Arena staff have an up-to-date schedule.

Shinny: Mon, Wed: 1130am-1250pm & Fri: 1:00 - 2:20pm
Shinny hockey is open to Military Members and DND employees at CFB Esquimalt to come practice skills and/or engage in scrimmage sessions with other users if desired. All users must wear appropriate protective equipment which includes full gear, CSA approved full face protection and a CSA approved neck guard please note, half visors are not permitted. There are no restrictions on your ability, which makes it an ideal time to hone your hockey skills. Goalies are encouraged to wear neck shields when participating in these sessions. This program is available to Adults over the age of 18. See arena staff if any more information is required.

Casual Skate: Tues & Thur: 11:30am - 12:50pm and Sun: 2:30 - 3:45pm
Casual skate is open to military members and their families, DND employees and members of the community (for a small drop in fee). All Skaters are advised to wear CSA helmets However, children 5 and under are required to wear CSA approved helmets. Please be advised that bike helmets are not permitted. There are no pucks allowed at any time, sticks are optional for those who feel comfortable skating with one.

Parents & Kids Sticks & Pucks: Sat: 2:30 - 3:45pm
The Parents and Kids, Sticks and Pucks is reserved for Parents/Guardians who wish to enjoy a little stick time with a child or children 12 and under. Adults without a child will not be permitted to participate. Gloves, CSA approved helmets and sticks are required in order to participate. This program is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable environment to learn and practice. Please note, nets are not available and pucks are restricted to on ice only. No mini games are allowed.

To make a booking for any Base Facility (i.e. sports fields, pool, gym) a written request is required. Please contact the Facilities Coordinator by e-mail (Matthew.Kingstone@forces.gc.ca) or fax 250-363-4315 a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the event. Note: military training takes priority on all bookings.
No skate rentals. No skate sharpening available.
