Tallinn typically has a fairly cold winter, a cool spring with little precipitation, a moderately warm summer and a long and rainy autumn. However, it is possible that summer temperatures can reach +30°C.  Average temperature in July are approximately +18 °C (2016). Average temperature in February +0,7°C (2016).

Info on the area

The approximate population of Tallinn is 441 961.  Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia and is also the largest city.   It is located on the northern coast of the country and receives approximately 1.5 million visitors annually.

Emergency Information

In case of Emergency or an accident you may dial 112 from any telephone free of charge.
Pharmacies are usually open from 10:00 – 19:00.  Some are open 24 hours. 
No vaccinations or health certificates are required for entry into Estonia.


The official language of Tallinn is Estonian.  However, Russian, German, English and Finnish are also widely used.

Host Language Training

If you don't speak Estonian, don't worry, MFS(E) will provide you with a phrase book in your welcome bag to get you started with some useful words and phrases. Currently Rosetta Stone does not offer Estonian in its database.  However, if you would like to learn Russian and/or German please contact our Virtual Programs Coordinator.  If you would like to attend a local class, contact your Community Services Provider to learn about what costs can be reimbursed.
