Casual care is also often available so that parents can attend a program, deployment activity, workshop, training or other special events at the H&R MFRC.

DEPLOYMENT RESPITE CHILD CARE (STARTING JULY 21, 2018)
Are you a military family experiencing a deployment? Deployed families may choose to access quality child care in a positive environment on Saturdays from 11am–3pm, at alternating sites (Halifax and Shearwater). Respite child care is a preventative option offered by the H&R MFRC to support a family’s social and mental well-being. Respite child care needs are assessed on a case-by-case basis. To access this service, families are to connect with a member of the Mental Health & Well-Being Team by calling 902-427-7788.
*The Deployment Respite Child Care program operates as an “unlicensed” child care program in accordance with provincial regulations.
The registration deadline is the Tuesday prior, by 4pm.
If you are in need of care but your situation doesn’t fit any of the care listed above, special arrangements may be considered, on a case by case basis. Special arrangements may include finances, care outside of regular casual care hours or accommodating a child who may require additional supports. For special arrangements, please contact the Casual Care Coordinator: 902-720-1040 (Shearwater) / 902-427-7796 (Halifax).
The H&R MFRC, through the Military Family Services Program (MFSP) Emergency Child Care (ECC) Policy supports families by facilitating short-term emergency child care requirements. There is an established national criteria to determine eligibility. Families are encouraged to develop a comprehensive child care plan and in the event this plan fails, families are eligible to access MFS Emergency Child Care. This care is available 24/7 however, it may take several hours to put into place. In discussion with the family, application of resources will be decided on a case by case basis. For more information, please call: 902-427-7788 or 1-888-753-8827.
We recognize that sometimes families need a break, especially during a deployment. If a situation is not considered an emergency but child care would be considered beneficial to a family’s well-being, a period of respite child care may be available to a family. This service is a local enhancement to the MFSP Emergency Child Care Policy.
Our Family Well-Being Counsellors work with families to address their specific needs. Please note that certain elgibility criteria apply. To make a request for respite child care, pleae call: 902-427-7788 and ask to speak with the Family Well-Being Counsellor.
