KMFRC Mental Health News - June 2020

Welcome to the first edition of the Mental Health and Wellness Newsletter. We sincerely hope you and your family are all doing well and keeping healthy and safe. Our intention with this email update is to share resources with you that may be helpful or applicable. We recognize that it can be overwhelming to decide what would support your situation and we hope this streamlines the process a bit for you. 

The Mental Health Team at the KMFRC continues to offer short-term counselling services to CAF family members during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are currently offering services over the phone and hope to have a virtual platform for video counselling available the week of May 18th. We continue to monitor our intake line at 613-541-5010 ext 4811 if you or a loved one is considering reaching out for services.

Each resource will indicate whether the information is being shared on behalf of the community or if this is a program from KMFRC/ the Mental Health & Wellness Team.  All information and resources shared should be personally researched to ensure that they are a good fit for you.

Peer Support Group for Recent CAF Tragedies
The Mental Health Team welcomes all those who have felt impacted by the recent CAF tragedies to participate in an open format peer support group.

This group will be held via zoom and we ask that you please register at http://kmfrc.com/peersupport

Due to the nature of the group we cannot guarantee confidentiality and once registered you will be sent a specific link as well as guidelines for the group. We hope that the open format will allow flexibility for individuals to attend at the best time for them within the two hour time period.

Bereaved Families of Ontario--Kingston Region
The team at Bereaved Families of Ontario continue to offer virtual support and services via video conferencing and phone calls. They have various support groups as well as providing one-on-one support.

Mental Health & Wellness Resources—Children

Kids Help Phone - #CAFKIDS
Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) has partnered with Kids Help Phone and True Patriot Love Foundation to launch a crisis texting service for kids from military families living in Canada. Children, youth and young adults from military families can access free mental health and well-being support by texting the keyword CAFKIDS to 686868 for service in English or JEUNESFAC for service in French. The Crisis Text Line powered by Kids Help Phone is confidential and available day or night.

Military Family Services Employment Resources

KMFRC Employment Services
Our Employment Services Worker, Kristina Pernar, continues to provide employment support and assistance via email and hopes to move to a virtual platform as well. The services she provides include:

  • Assistance navigating local employment agencies and education services
