The Summer Fun program will not be operating this summer due to COVID-19

Summer Fun

Please visit our COVID-19 resources page for virtual summer programs.

The MFRC Summer Fun day camp for school-aged children is not operating this summer (2020) for a number of reasons, most notably the previous lack of a definitive operation date as per the Government of Saskatchewan Re-Opening Plan, which negatively impacted HRSDC grant acceptance, employment planning and subsequently program viability. Further, the Summer Fun camp is not an MFS/ MFRC-mandated program, and as such is not funded by either national DND or local Wing public funding. Also, the Community and Fitness Centre (building #80), which would normally house the day camp program, was originally prioritized for the return of military members in support of operations with specific pandemic protocols that would further impede operations. Therefore, program space that may be currently, and possibly in the future, deemed inaccessible, coupled with specific COVID safety requirements with regard to spacing, cleaning and restroom requirements, necessitated the decision to not proceed with the day camp to ensure the health of all involved.

In closing, due to the inability to operate the program for the aforementioned reasons, namely the lack of a definitive reopen date, funding considerations, unknown facility accessibility and related logistical challenges, the difficult decision was made to forgo the Summer Fun (day camp) program this year to ensure the health and safety of all potential participants and their immediate families.

Currently, MFRC staff members are exploring other community options, both physical and virtual, that may be available to support military families this summer.
