Lockheed Martin Canada donates $300,000 to Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services
Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) is pleased to announce that Lockheed Martin Canada has made a generous donation of $300,000. This donation will support mental health programs for children and youth from military families.  It will help fund the crisis text service for kids from military families living in Canada as well as local mental health programs for children and youth.
At the best of times, military families face frequent relocations and parental absences. Military kids can also face the stress of unpredictability and risk because of their parents’ military activities. At least 15 per cent of children and youth from military families have both parents serving. Few jobs outside of the military expose children and youth to such pressures. This unique reality, along with the current stressors that 2020 have brought, make these times even more challenging.

A significant percentage of the donation will help cover costs associated with the new Crisis Text Line for the next five years. This service is powered by Kids Help Phone and is offered in partnership with the True Patriot Love Foundation. The texting service offers children and youth free access to mental health support in both English and French.  Military children with cell phones can text the keyword CAFKIDS at 686868 for service in English. Texting the keyword JEUNESFAC at 686868 will provide support in French.  It is confidential, free, and available 24/7 across Canada.

Another portion of the Lockheed Martin Canada donation will be directed to five Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs) which are located from coast to coast in Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Calgary, and Esquimalt (Victoria). Each MFRC will receive $20,000 to deliver mental health programs and services to children and youth from military families.

All funds are being administered by Support Our Troops, the official charitable cause of the Canadian Armed Forces.

We are incredibly proud to be working alongside CFMWS to ensure that children from military families have the necessary resources and programs to remain connected and supported throughout their unique challenges or circumstances.”

“This level of generosity from Lockheed Martin helps us ensure all children from military families have free access to mental health services, and that Kids Help Phone staff and volunteer Crisis Responders have enhanced training to better understand the complexities of the military family lifestyle including the unique conditions that children and youth in military families experience. We’re extremely grateful.”
