For the Love of French and For the Love of English programs are hybrids of self-directed online and class-led learning. They increase the flexibility of SLT service provision to families. Families can access For the Love of French or For the Love of English at pilot MFRC sites via the CAFconnection.ca website. A contracted company, LRDG handles the administration of the program seamlessly.
2018 Second Language Pilot Program
- Students are assessed to determine their proficiency in either English or French.
- If a student misses a class, they can work online independently to make up the work and then consult with a teacher during their next class to see if they are on the right track.
- Currently, SLT study options include the self-directed online Rosetta Stone program, for which students obtain a license to the access the program from a participating MFRC.
- The second learning option that presently may be administered through an MFRC is the SLT class-led program, facilitated by instructors arranged by MFRC staff. The class-led curriculum was developed by the Canadian Forces Language School (CFLS) approximately 18 years ago. Reimbursement of the registration fee for SLT class-led learning is uniformly applied to CAF family members who must attend 85% or more of the classes, regardless of circumstances.
