The CAF Athletic Trainer Program (CAFATP) was created to provide support to CAF athletes at Regional, National, and International sports competitions. It is an educational system, which develops CAF – qualified athletic trainers through a graduated program that prepares them to support CAF athletes at all levels of sporting competitions.

 


CAFATP TRAINER LEVELS

Level 1 Trainer
A CAFATP Level 1 Trainer can recognize life-threating situations and take action by implementing and performing appropriate emergency care procedures where required, such as First Aid and CPR, as well as establish and develop communication patterns involving the coach, physician and athletes. A CAFATP Level 1 Trainer can cover base and regional events independently. When possible a CAFATP Level 2 Trainer or higher will also be assigned to provide event coverage and mentor the level 1 Trainer.

Level 2 Trainer
A CAFATP Level 2 Trainer is confident in their skills and has significant practical experiencing taping various body parts at sporting events. CAFATP Trainers interested in becoming a Level 2 Trainer should contact their Regional Head Trainer (RHT) to express interest, and ensure their experience is reviewed regularly.

Level 3 Trainer
A CAFATP Level 3 Trainer is confident in their skills, has extensive practical experiencing taping all body parts at sporting events, and is comfortable and effective in assuming the duties of Event Head Trainer for events up to the National level. In addition, Level 3 Trainers are able and willing to provide coverage for teams and athletes in settings with minimal resources and support (e.g. international/CISM coverage). CAFATP Trainers interested in becoming a Level 3 Trainer should contact their Regional Head Trainer (RHT) to express interest, and ensure their experience is reviewed regularly.

  20+ days of coverage at base/regional level under mentorships of level 2/3 trainer within a 4 year period. Additional 20+ days of coverage at national level within a 5 year period
 
Sport Experience   Coverage in at least 2 sports with 1 being a contact sport (Basketball, Fencing, Grappling, Hockey, Slo-pitch, Soccer, Taekwondo) & experience taping a variety of body parts as recorded in CAFATP log book.


 
Coverage in at least 4 sports with 1 being a contact sport (Basketball, Fencing, Grappling, Hockey, Slo-pitch, Soccer, Taekwondo) & experience taping all of body parts as recorded in CAFATP log book. (Not all 4 events have to be at the National level).
