Caring for your loved one is a precious and rewarding experience but one not without its challenges. 
 
Who Is a Caregiver?
Someone, which is invariably the immediate family living within the household, who provides support to those who are most vulnerable and adversely impacted by particular and extended challenges of military or civilian life.
 
Being a Caregiver to a loved one can leave a person feeling isolated, burnt out, exhausted and overwhelmed if you don’t manage the stress properly. It’s important to take care of yourself during this critical time by finding ways to manage your stress and balance will create a rewarding and invaluable experience for everyone. Here are a few tips for a Caregiver:
  • Give yourself a break;
  • Take care of your health;
  • Spread the responsibility;
  • Maintain personal relationships;
  • Reward yourself in little ways;
  • Talk to supportive family and friends; and
  • Say “yes” when someone offers assistance.
This advice will help assist Caregivers regain a sense of wellness and balance. It’s important to remember the journey will have its peaks and valleys but you’re not alone. There’s an abundance of resources available including: Canadian Armed Forces Members Assistance Program (CFMAP)
