Elevation Pictures hosts screening of “Arctic” for Canadian Armed Forces Members tasked with protecting our North

Elevation Pictures is pleased to host two special screenings of Arctic at Canadian Armed Forces Bases: 4 Wing Cold Lake and Joint Task Force North in Yellowknife. As an official selection of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Arctic marks the feature debut of writer and director Joe Penna, creator of the innovative and popular YouTube channel, MysteryGuitarMan. Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt, Casino Royale) delivers an engrossing tour de force performance as Overgård, a resourceful yet increasingly desperate man stranded in a remote, snow-covered wilderness. Filmed in Iceland under grueling conditions, Arctic is a captivating, white knuckle cinematic experience that explores our insurmountable will to survive and overcome obstacles.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has been an integral part of protecting the Arctic for more than a hundred years. It has a permanent presence—a headquarters, with detachments—in all northern territories. The CAF provides support in the region in a number of ways, from conducting patrols (land, sea and air) to maintaining the signals intelligence receiver at Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert, the most Northern place in the world that people live in year-round. Elevation Pictures is a regular collaborator of the Film for Forces Program presented by Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS). CFMWS contributes directly to the Forces' philosophy, "people first, mission always" through the provision of a full range of fitness, sports and recreation; family and charitable support; retail and personal financial services that enable CAF members to focus on operational effectiveness and better tackle the unique challenges of military life. To enhance programs such as recreation, CFMWS works with Corporate Canada to be able to provide special experiences like the screening of Arctic.
