Pour l'amour du français/For the Love of English

Program offered through Language Research Development Group (LRDG)

As stated on the LRDG website:

The current class-led curricula, in English and in French, was developed by the Canadian Forces Language School (CFLS) approximately 18 years ago. These curricula required updating to remain current, be reflective of today’s military families’ needs and deliver the best possible services to military families.

Our innovative Second Language Training combines self-study, 1-1 tutoring, and group sessions to increase your success. Our next 10-week session starts the week of January 14,2019.

Here’s how it works:

1. Contact us to register and then take an online placement test.

2. Once you complete the test you will be given access to the online modules. There are 15 modules and you’ll have access to all of them and can experiment to see where you fit. Leona, our ED, who took some French lessons many years ago, started at module 0 and quickly worked through to the end of module 3 in the first 10-week session and then did module 4 during the second session. Onwards to module 5! You need 90% to pass the level but you can try as many times as necessary to succeed. You can also take as much time as you need to complete each module. We will run 3 10-week sessions per year.

3. Each week you have a 1-hour individual tutoring session by phone or Skype. When you feel ready for your exam, let your tutor know and she’ll book it for you. You can move onto the next module as soon as you succeed.

4. Each week there’s also a 2-hour in-person class held at the College de l’Ile office on Kent Street in Charlottetown for those who can make it. Please let us know which night of the week works best for you. Classes are from 6 – 8 p.m.
