Frequently Asked Questions Heart & Home Heroes

Who is eligible to be nominated as a Heart & Home Hero?

Any military family member is eligible to be nominated as a Heart & Home Hero.  This includes spouses, partners, girlfriend / boyfriend or parents - both male and female - of CAF members from Garrison Petawawa.  Due to the nature of this event, nominees must be 18 years of age or older.

My partner did not go overseas, but was away on a course for several months.  Am I eligible?
Yes!  Deployment is a broad term that includes: deployments overseas, exercises, out-of-town courses or Imposed Restriction (IR).

Can I nominate myself?
Absolutely.  Send us your contact information using the on-line registration form, and we will send you an invitation.

What do you mean by high-readiness season?
This includes any deployment that happened in the last two to three years. If you are not sure, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to discuss your individual circumstances.

I would like to attend with a friend, but we would both like to be recognized as Heart & Home Heroes. How do we do this?
In order to be recognized as a Heart & Home Hero, you must complete your own registration form.  Those people who are attending as guests will not be recognized. In other words, you would each register separately and select "I am not bringing a guest".
Please be sure to note your friend's name in the Special Requests section so we can make sure that you are seated together.

Do I have to bring my loved one / CF Member as my guest?
You can bring whomever you would like.

Why did you change the date for this event?
As many of our families were experiencing a deployment, with their loved one away assisting in areas affected by flooding, we decided to postpone this event until June 14. We wanted to be sure that as many family members as possible will be able to attend.

I submitted my name before you changed the date.  Do I have to register again?
If you were already registered, you do not have to register again.

What should I wear?
The dress code is semi-formal.

Will child care be provided?
Child care will not be provided for this event.

Where is the event taking place?
The Heart & Home Heroes event is being held at Garrison Petawawa in Building Y-101.  Guests will receive a map with their invitation.

Is Y-101 wheelchair accesible?
Yes it is.  If you have any other accessbility concerns, please let us know when you RSVP.  We want to be sure that all of our guests have an enjoyable experience.

Do I need to bring ID?
Please note that if you are accessing the Garrison after 6 PM, you will be required to show identification at the main entry gate.

Will there be a cash bar?
Alcohol is not being served at this event.

I have a great story from our last deployment.  How do I share it with you?
As part of the evening, we will be presenting awards for:

- the funniest deployment story
- the most heartwarming story
- the best survival story
- most supportive
- the best deployment advice

The submissions will be considered by an independent panel of judges, and winners for each category will be announced at the event.  You can submit your story using our on-line entry form.

Can I submit more than one?
You can enter one story in each category.
