The BAS Program offers before and after care within the school. The program, run by the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre, is licensed under the Child Care Early Years Act for children from military and civilian families.

The program strives to maintain an educational environment where each child will feel cared for, respected, safe and secure. There are children-lead activities to nurture each child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional developmental needs.

April is the month of the military child

The Month of the Military Child is set aside to celebrate children growing up in military families.  It is an opportunity to recognize their strength and resiliency.

Throughout April, children participating in various PMFRC programs will be doing activities to recognize the Month of the Military Child.

The children in the Valour Before and After School Program created a banner, decorated with their handprints painted in camo. They are also learning about why the dandelion has been selected as the flower to represent military children. Take a look!

The children at Our Lady of Sorrows Before & After School Program created a bulletin board to display the crafts and pictures they have done so far this month, including: a silhouette and camo painting, boots, and a dandelion craft. The children also had their picture taken in a military helmet and vest.

On April 11, the children had a special guest speaker, Nadine, who is one of their military parents. She did a wonderful presentation that explained deployment and some of her military equipment. She even brought in gas mask and other gear for the children to see. The children also had the opportunity to paint their face in camo!

The children had a silhouette of their faces done. Parents have been invited to visit the room to see if they can guess which silhouette belongs to their child.
