Tell us more about your role at the PMFRC and the programs that you are involved in.
As the Business Manager, I am one of the designates for the Executive Director. I oversee the Finances, Human Resources and Employment Service Departments but I get to work with every department in our organization on a regular basis in my role.
How long have you worked for the PMFRC?
I have worked at the PMFRC for just over 2 years as the Business Manager.
Tell me about your background (experience, education, etc.)
I went to school in North Bay Ontario at Nipissing University where I completed a 4 year Honours Business Administration Degree. From there I moved all over Ontario from Ottawa to Belleville, to Milton, to Cambridge before moving back to Petawawa. I spent most of my career in management in the Insurance Industry working in various roles.
What can people expect to see when they first meet you?
I don’t often meet clients in person in my role but I hope they feel I am approachable and accommodating.
What is your favourite part about working for the PMFRC?
In my role every day is different. One day I can be planning the budget for the PMFRC and the next I can be trying to help fix someone’s computer! I enjoy that every day is busy and keeps me on my toes. No two days are the same and that keeps work interesting!
What is your greatest accomplishment or proudest moment working for the PMFRC?
It is hard to pick a specific accomplishment in the Business Manager role and there is so much new happening every day. I think we are always working on new projects and adapting to changes now more than ever. I would say our response to COVID-19, although very challenging, has been an ongoing success and will continue to be. We seem to have to adapt to changes on almost a daily basis and the staff and Agency have worked hard to navigate and be successful in these difficult times.
Where are you from and what brought you to Petawawa? How long have you lived here?
I was born and raised in Petawawa as both my parents were locals. I went away to school when I was 18 and always said I would never come back! Nineteen years later, after having two children, my family made the choice to move back to be closer to family. We have been back living in Petawawa for six years now.
What advice do you have for families transitioning to Petawawa?
It is a beautiful area that has changed a lot since I lived here as a child! Moving back from a bigger city I thought there would be fewer things to do with my children and less opportunities for them to play organized sports and programs, but I was quite surprised how wrong I was. There always seems to be something going on and something to do. And the short drive to Ottawa gives you access to anything that you may be missing.
What is your favourite thing about living in the area? What is your favourite thing to do in the winter? The summer?
With two young boys, in the winter you will find me at the rink coaching, reffing, or playing hockey myself! In the summer we are out playing soccer or baseball, or just enjoying the outdoors.
Leave us with a few words of wisdom -- what is your favourite quote?
I don’t have a favourite quote per se, but someone told me something a long time ago that has stuck with me: Always give your best effort in everything you do no matter if it is something you enjoy or not, or something you are good at or struggle with. There are always things we enjoy doing and things we may not enjoy at all, but we should always do the best we can regardless of the situation. Not an easy thing to do but something I often think about when faced with a difficult task.
