Meet Me at the PMFRC FOTOLIA Share: Introducing Liisa Kuuter Name: Liisa Kuuter Position: Clinical Manager (Image Source: PMFRC) Tell us more about your role at the PMFRC and the programs that you are involved in. I am responsible for the overall management of Mental Health services and programs including direct responsibility of the Mental Health Services team that includes 3 Family Liaison Officers and 6 Social Workers/Mental Health Clinicians. I am also the lead contact for community partnerships regarding mental health services. How long have you worked for the PMFRC? I have been with the PMFRC for 4 months. Tell me about your background (experience, education, etc.) I have a Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. My experience includes: 10 years working in Children’s Mental Health as a Clinical Supervisor/Manager in Toronto and York region; 5 years working with deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals with a provincial based service agency and previous experience as the Director of a children’s camp in PEI and Ontario. What can people expect to see when they first meet you? That I am tall and often with a smile on my face! What is your favorite part about working for the PMFRC? Because I am relatively new to the agency and the area I still have lots to learn and explore. However, so far I really enjoy the people that I work with. I have a wonderfully talented and dedicated mental health team providing counselling, case management and mental health group programs. The agency is quite diverse and it is very interesting getting to know all the departments and staff who all share a passion for supporting families of the Military. What is your greatest accomplishment or proudest moment working for the PMFRC? Not sure if I have one as I have been here for such a short time, however I am the first Clinical Manager to be hired at the PMFRC. Where are you from and what brought you to Petawawa? How long have you lived here? I am originally from Toronto, although I have lived and worked in 5 provinces. I relocated to the area for this position from Toronto where I had lived and worked for the past 15 years. What advice do you have for families transitioning to Petawawa? Get to know the area – explore the outdoor opportunities (i.e. trails, beach, hiking in Algonquin Park). Partake in weekend events – there are many -- and definitely visit the Military museums as they are worth it. What is your favorite thing about living in the area? What is your favorite thing to do in the winter? The summer? Don’t know yet – but I do like being close to Ottawa (not too far for a day trip to do a Costco and Starbucks run!) I have long frequented this area for canoe tripping in Algonquin Park and cross country skiing in the Ottawa Valley and look forward to continuing that. Leave us with a few words of wisdom -- what is your favorite quote? Live, Love, Laugh and don’t be afraid to “take a leap of faith”.
