Tell us more about your role at the PMFRC and the programs that you are involved in.
I am one of the faces behind a lot of what you see on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, our website CAFconnection.ca/Petawawa, our monthly newsletter, and our app. My role has changed a little bit since returning from maternity leave in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, but I used to enjoy helping out at various events when I could to take pictures to share on our online platforms.

How long have you worked for the PMFRC?
I have worked here since November 2015.

Tell me about your background (experience, education, etc.)
Although this is my first marketing job, I have my BA in Communication from Carleton University. I focused on marketing, public relations and advertising — so you can imagine how excited I was to find a job in Petawawa! Previously, I had been working as an Office Manager in an Ottawa retirement residence.

What can people expect to see when they first meet you?
Before the pandemic, if you saw me it would likely have been at an event taking pictures, or passing by at the North Side where my office is. Like most people who work here at the PMFRC, you will find me smiling and willing to help the best I can.

Today, during the time of virtual programming, you will find me getting back to your questions and comments as quick as I can on our Facebook and Instagram accounts!

What is your favourite part about working for the PMFRC?
I love that I am constantly learning here. Being my first marketing job, I still have a lot that I can learn and improve upon, and I enjoy the challenge. I also love that my job brings me closer to my spouse and the Military community. I feel that working here gives me a better understanding of the Military community as a whole.

What is your greatest accomplishment or proudest moment working for the PMFRC?
Since working here I have been involved in many projects that I am proud of, including the Volunteer Newsletter, Meet Me at the PMFRC and launching our Instagram account. I have also learned a lot more about the role, which has been an accomplishment for me.

Now that I am working from home during the pandemic, I am taking pride in accomplishing day-to-day tasks while being a full-time stay-at-home mom to my toddler! I amaze myself daily.

Where are you from and what brought you to Petawawa? How long have you lived here?
I am from Ottawa and was brought to Petawawa by my husband’s career five years ago.

What advice do you have for families transitioning to Petawawa?
Don’t be shy! Almost everyone who lives here has been “new” once. Sometimes it can be difficult to leave the safety of your home, but it is the best thing you can do — go to the gym, try a class, check out a program here at the PMFRC — I promise you will find someone you can relate to.

What is your favourite thing about living in the area? What is your favourite thing to do in the winter? The summer?
My favourite thing about living here is how active the community is. I love seeing kids playing outside, doing sports, couples running — it is really motivating! In the summer I love being outside, going running or taking my kids (my toddler and my dog) to the beach. In the winter I hate being outside so it is my time to hibernate and spend quality time snuggling with my family.

Leave us with a few words of wisdom -- what is your favourite quote?
What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create. -Buddha
