Emergency & Respite Childcare
We understand that life happens and sometimes plans don’t pan out. The MFRC can provide emergency childcare at the Occasional Childcare Centre for military families when their short-term and long-term childcare plan is being activated or during unforeseen circumstances. Children require transport to and from the centre. A MFRC Family Care Plan should be filled out and kept in the home prior to receiving Emergency Childcare Services.
Daytime hours, contact the MFRC at 765-3000 ext. 3352
Evening or overnight hours, contact the Base Duty Center 765-3000 ext. 3044
Funds for emergency childcare is also available. If you are in an emergency situation and you need more support, you can contact the Shilo MFRC or the Family Information Line – available 24/7.

One of the representatives will guide you through a series of questions to assess your eligibility for support under the EFCA policy. If you qualify for support, they will be able to provide you with more info as well as a local service provider. If you do not qualify, they will redirect you to other possible support services.
Are you feeling over whelmed and need a break? The MFRC can help. Respite childcare is available to military families on a case by case bases. Contact Children’s Services or an MFRC staff member to arrange respite childcare in the home or in our Occasional Childcare Centre.
