Parting the Dark Clouds An inspiring story of resiliency and empowerment.

"The reward of creating your own path, to better yourself, and to learn new skills, does something special to your soul"

My once happy life was hidden under a dark cloud.

I found myself stumbling with every step taken; 2 steps forward, 3 steps backwards...over and over again.

How was I supposed to fix something that I knew nothing about? Every day was the same numb robotic movements; do this, don't do that. Eggshells, I was walking on a never ending supply of eggshells, trying to creep through life as though I was a little church mouse. Again I ask, how was I supposed to fix something that I knew nothing about, especially when my partner left me to 'figure it out' on my own, not knowing what was really happening...or just not in the right mindset to care. Realization then kicked in, with the help of medical professionals we learned that what we were dealing with was PTSD.

PTSD: what is it? Can it be cured? How do we survive it? Can we 'fix' this? Is it worth pushing through the rough days when my partner acts as though they want to be anywhere but 'here'...with me? These are just some of the thoughts that raced through my mind.

The simple answer...YES! It is absolutely worth pushing through. Not just for your partner, not just for your relationship, but for YOU! When you make the conscious decision to better yourself, your surroundings will follow. It may be a long bumpy road as it was for myself, but it will absolutely be worth it.

I discovered things about myself that I did not quite see before. I've found my voice, I carry myself with pride, and most importantly I embrace my flaws and the flaws of my family. Every day we learn, we grow, we love.

I chose to make a positive change for myself, and decided to go back to school in order to get educated on certain aspects of life that affected me greatly. I was then able to put the tools I had learned to great use. I am now helping those who may find themself in a similar situation as I once did, and let me tell you, there is no greater feeling than knowing you are able to help others.

It is easy to blindly follow the path that life has laid out for you, but keep in mind that the reward of creating your own path, to better yourself, and to learn new skills, does something special to your soul - especially when used to help others on their healing journeys.
