I have been a military spouse for 5 years now. Before coming here, I worked in the federal public service in various positions, most recently as a lawyer. I’ve been living in beautiful Oahu for almost two years now. This is my first OUTCAN, and I remember during the first few months it was frustrating waiting for approval of documents, understanding how things work here and feeling isolated living in a new country. Volunteering with the local Military Family Advisory Committee (MFAC) certainly helped as did meeting the other Canadian families. I also took advantage of some “free time” and am currently training to become a genealogist with the aim of finishing my training by the end of our posting here. In May 2019, I was excited to I became the Military Family Services Coordinator (MFSC) here in Hawaii! As a military spouse, I understand the importance of being involved in a positive and supportive community. I want to help families in accessing resources and programs to ensure a successful transition and a good posting. I am looking forward to working with and supporting the military families here in Hawaii.
