Life in Rome Up-to-date information about Life in Rome

Life in Rome - The Copper City

The City of Rome is located in upstate New York, in the Mohawk Valley, near the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.  The area enjoys four distinct seasons, countless opportunities for outdoor recreation, rich history, and proximity to several major US cities.
About the Canadian Detachment:
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have been contributing to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) mission at the Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS) in Rome for a long time. Today, 15 CAF members make up the Canadian Detachment in Rome, working at EADS alongside the New York Air National Guard.

After the closure of Griffiss AFB in 1995, Rome was left with only a few military establishments – EADS, the Rome site of the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Defense Finance Accounting Service, an ID section, and a base gym. Without local US base services support, CAF families posted to Rome have access to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation services, the Commissary and Exchange at Fort Drum, about 90 minutes away in Watertown, NY.
