My name is Wendy McDonald and I recently became the new Military Family Services Coordinator at Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS).  I am, what most people call, a Newfie.  I was born and raised on the beautiful, not tropical, island of Newfoundland.  My sister is retired military and because of her I moved to Cold Lake, Alberta right after high school.  She moved onto other places in her career while I resided in Cold Lake for 26 years.  I know most people cringe just thinking about that, but it was a great place to live, despite the freezing cold and forever long winters.  While I was exposed to the RCAF in various ways throughout my years in Cold Lake, this is my first OUTCAN posting.   My time in Cold Lake taught me that it is important to establish strong roots in a community and develop even stronger relationships to the people in that community.  Coming to Rome was an easy decision for my wife and I as it is closer to both our families and is also a few hours driving distance to major cities like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Ottawa…all of which have NHL teams and/or MLB teams which is a huge perk for us as avid sports fans.  Here in Rome we are surrounded by numerous parks, hiking trails and my favorite, waterfalls, not to mention being so close to the Adirondacks.  Green Lakes State Park is beautiful and one of my favourite places to go.  Additionally, if you like antiquing and love to antique hunt, which I do, this is the place to be.  I have become a Pinterest nut and have been using our garage as a hobby shop.  I recently made a coffee table for the MFSC office and have hosted craft events at the center for the spouses, something I will continue to do as it is a lot of fun.  I am looking forward to the arrival of our new members and their families as well as saddened by the ones that will be leaving. Ultimately, I hope that I can use my role as MFSC to help make this an enjoyable posting for all of the members and families of Canadian Forces Detachment Rome.
