Fitness, Sports & Recreation Coordinator

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Personnel Support Programs (PSP) Operations, the Fitness, Sports and Recreation Coordinator plans and coordinates the operations and delivery of Base/Wing/Unit (B/W/U) physical fitness, sports, and recreation programs and special events. He/she coordinates requirements for fitness, sports and recreation programs including transportation, lodging, rations and equipment. The Fitness, Sports and Recreation Coordinator manages employees and monitors membership and eligibility to fitness, sports and recreation clubs and facilities. He/she coaches, manages or officiates military sports teams or leagues at the local, regional, national, or international level, as required. He/she authorizes, records and documents financial transactions/commitments, within approved budget.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences, Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field AND some years of experience in sports and recreation administration, physical fitness evaluation and prescription, or in a related field
OR
College diploma or certificate in Sports Administration, Recreation Management, Exercise Sciences, Leisure Services, or a related field, AND several years of experience in sports and recreation administration, physical fitness evaluation and prescription, or in a related field
AND
Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications
Current National Lifeguard Service Certificate (NLS) qualifications
Current Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) qualification
Current National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 2 Theory and Technical certification in two sports (preferably one in summer and one in winter)

Language Requirement: Bilingual Essential

Experience Requirements:

  • In planning, organizing and coordinating the operations and delivery of physical fitness, sports, and recreation programs
  • In applying policies, procedures, regulations and applicable legislation 
  • In evaluating physical fitness 
  • In instructing physical fitness training sessions 
  • In preparing and conducting physical fitness training sessions 
  • In preparing and administering tournaments and sporting events 
  • In officiating sporting events and/or athletic competitions 
  • In coaching sports 
  • In budget administration 
  • In personnel administration 
  • In using software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, e-mail, and Internet browsing
