Unit Fitness and Sports Officer (UFSO) Course
In early March 2015, the National PSP Training Centre conducted a pilot of the newly revitalized Unit Fitness and Sports Officer (UFSO) course. The UFSO course had not been delivered since 1999, and as a result the National PSP Training Centre was tasked in 2012 to review and update the course to meet the current requirements. The updated UFSO course is focused on the effective planning and management of a long term unit fitness and sports program. As senior physically fit members of a unit, UFSO’s are in the ideal position to facilitate an effective physical fitness program. They are the link between PSP fitness subject matter experts and the Commanding Officer (CO) who has the responsibility for physical training within a unit. UFSO’s are trained in the process of planning and managing a fitness and sports program, yet must still rely on PSP to ensure the program follows evidence based best practices. The UFSO is the physical fitness advisor to the CO and in many ways the driving force for a healthy physical fitness culture in a unit. The National PSP Training Centre learned a lot from the pilot delivery of the UFSO course and are excited to see the impact of the UFSO students when they return back to their units and apply what they have learned.
